what to wear: seattle in the fall.

i was crossing my fingers and toes for *at least* one rainy day while we were in seattle. come to find out that's just something you don't really have to do, silly me.

so yeah, the weathermen got it all wrong and i was left completely unprepared for the stuff we got. but hey, question, is it just me or are these weathermen getting less and less good at their jobs? whatever, you know it's true.

anywho, this oklahomie was a wee bit chilly and seattle's fall was feeling a smidge more like the beginnings of winter. so i thought i'd share a little insight into what to wear if you ever head out that way. in the fall.

// 1 // always, always pack a JACKET with a hood. i took a hoodie, but with all the rain it didn't do a lick of good. thankfully, the husband let me wear his waterproof jacket over it much of the trip. he's good to me y'all. or something like this would be good to carry around with you--this jacket folds up and stows away in it's own pocket! bam!

// 2 // umbrella. how fun is this color changing umbrella from restoration hardware! we were dumb and didn't pack an umbrella, although, give me some credit people, i did actually consider it. our hotel had umbrellas for the guests though so we totally lucked out! and we seriously needed it almost every day.

// 3 // boots. i would've killed to have my rain boots there with me! or just ANY of my tall boots for that matter! you do need to make sure they're comfy enough for walking though.

// 4 // scarf/hood/shawl. unlike oklahoma, it's already scarf weather up there so get one of these and it'll do double duty!

// 5 // backpack/cross body purse. with all the walking we did i think it's best to take a backpack or cross body purse to stay hands free.

// 6 // watch. we were trying to cram as much as we could into our 7 day trip so i was constantly checking my watch. it especially helped me keep tabs on public transportation-we had a few very close calls! waiting an extra 10-15 minutes for the next bus, train or ferry can cost you!

// 7 // handbag. i think it's always a good idea, especially while traveling, to have a little handbag 'handy' with all your most used/go to items in it. i'm addicted to chapstick so that's probably the #1 item you'll find in my handbag! anyone else..? no?

oh, and if you forget something, you can always buy! there's shopping galore! h & m, gap, urban outfitters, nike, nordstrom, banana republic...on and on!

GooseWaddle Blanket Review and Giveaway! the softest of soft in my book.

when rylan was a baby baby we would take naps together in our favorite spot on the couch with our favorite cozy blanket. those times spent all snuggled up, nice and warm, are some of my most cherished memories with my little man, mainly because he's not a big fan of cuddling anymore and i miss it. he hardly sits still these days, but that's another story for another time!

at the Baker house, we are just cozy fools, you know? the best thing about winter is bunching everybody up nice and tight on the couch in our warmest sweats and topping us off with a "softest of soft" blanket. so i was pretty pumped when i was contacted to review these blankets from GooseWaddle.

i'm a sucker for the furry ones and quilts, there's just something about them that lulls you to sleep, right? well, i've never felt a "furry one" like this one. we received a white (we went with gender neutral-in hopes of a baby baker #3 someday! fingers crossed!) baby blanket, blankie and the GooseWaddle plush toy-who most definitely needs a name by the way...i'm thinking Herbie-i mean, goodness gracious look at the guy-he's totally a Herbie ;), or something like that, or maybe just Goose.

the full size baby blanket is perfect for either of my littles, but tenley will love cozy-ing up with the blankie-she's taken a liking to sleeping with blankies over her face! and rylan is pretty fond of the "Goose" and his "gasses" aka glasses.

when we opened the packages, you could almost immediately feel the high quality of the blankets. they are super soft and thick and seem to be "double layered"-whatever that means-(i know nothing of sewing and this could be the case, but i'm just guessing).

and i think it's safe to say that our littlest review-er gives it two thumbs up...or two eyelids closed!

anywho, we are looking forward to getting some good use out of these blankets for the rest of the winter. it's been a cold one, Oklahoma!

last minute valentine's day gift guide for him. it's not too late! i hope...

// 1 // i don't know about the man in your life, but for mine a skinny tie is a great find! we stumbled upon this one at target and it was perfect! nicely priced too. we've also found some good ones at banana republic, gap, and perry ellis.

// 2 // the boys can never have enough comfy shirts, right? #targetdoesitagain

// 3 // chukka boots. the ones pictured here are calvin klein, but i've seen tons of nice ones at j. crew. they're comfy and more appealing to the eye than tennis shoes, in my opinion.

// 4 // wallet. they never leave home without this so make it a good one!

// 5 // nike sports watch GPS. this watch has so many cool features! it has a run reminder, tracks your distance, pace, location, and calories burned! it also helps you set goals and check your progress along the way. great gift for all the "runner" hubbies out there.

3 things.

number 1. i got a new blog design, as if you didn't notice!! my good friend courtney does great work-check out her etsy shop! she does custom blog designs, blog headers and some fun printables! *bonus* all the proceeds from her shop are going towards her adoption! two birds people, two birds.

number 2. family showers. have you tried them? i'm all about efficiency. this time i braved the waters with both babies. yep. do not try this at home people. it was half a miracle though that it actually worked.

number 3. here's week 3 of the 6 week crossfit inspired workout plan i've been following. i can't believe i've almost made it to the halfway mark!

also, i've updated our "about us" section! does that make this 4 things?

Ry's Tee Pee

so...making rylan's tee pee turned out to be a little more tricky than i imagined it in my head, but isn't that what always happens? well, that's how it is in my world at least. who's with me for more fail proof DIYs?? anyway, i was asked to do a tutorial so i'll try my best (sorry but we didn't take pictures along the way)!

we bought five 6 ft bamboo poles from hobby lobby along with a bag of leather ties and a 6 ft x 9 ft canvas drop cloth from lowe's, but i would recommend a bigger drop cloth or piece of fabric for this project.

we tied the poles together using the leather stripping, although, it would have been much easier to start off using a rubber band. we tied them loosely so that we were able to position the poles where we wanted them. after they were in position we tied them tighter. then we started messing with the drop cloth and realized we had bought the wrong size. doh. after a few minutes of frustration and brainstorming, we decided to make due with what we had and ended up just wrapping it around the poles. next, we made holes in the drop cloth so that we could tie it to two of the poles and then we just tied it in the front! if you buy the correct size you can do something more along the lines of this or this. but we like the way ours turned out and so does the new little inhabitant! and for now he's taking up a quarter of our living room!

to do before baby

after visiting with a couple of friends who are getting ready to welcome their new little ones into the world, i decided to make a list of some things to get done before the baby comes. this list is obviously not exhaustive, but here are a few that came to mind:

// go to the movies. that's right. did you know that going to an actual movie theater after having a baby is nearly impossible? husband and i have only been twice since ry was been born. enjoy one last good movie together!

// read some baby books. in preparation for ry's arrival i read Baby Wise and What To Expect When Your Expecting. both of which i recommend. Baby Wise was really good in helping me figure out how to get a schedule going for my baby and WTEWYE was very informative on what was going on with my body and the baby and also helped me prepare for labor.

// go on an overnight trip. spontaneous overnight trips are a bit more complicated and sparse once baby joins the picture.

// freeze some meals. this was something i was so thankful i had done! coming home from the hospital and trying to figure out what in the world you are doing with this new little person can be quite stressful so having meals prepared ahead of time is a life saver! we were also blessed by having my mom stay with us for about a week and our church family brought us meals as well. we were very very thankful for this.

// pamper yourself. go.get.a.pregnancy.massage. you'll thank me later! and don't forget the obligatory pedicure!

// clean your house. make sure you, or convince the mister in your life, to do a pretty good cleaning a week or a couple of weeks before your due date. this will help reduce stress for all you neat freaks (like me) out there since there won't be much time to focus on housework until you start getting the hang of being a new sleepy momma.

// pack your bags. make sure you have a bag for daddy, momma and baby.

// get alone time. one of the things i miss the most is just simply having time to myself. don't tell husband, but sometimes i take extra long showers for this very reason. ;)

// find a pediatrician. i know this is especially important when having a baby boy and choosing whether to circumcise or not.

// pray for your baby. start praying as soon as possible for this new little life!

// GET SOME SLEEP!

i saw this pack 'n play on the today show and i thought i'd share because it's pretty awesome.

expensive, but awesome.

i despise having to put our pack 'n play together. that's why the mr. is usually the one to do it.

he's pretty good about saving me from pulling my hair out.

this pack 'n play is literally a breeze to set up and take down.

also just a quick update on the family i posted about yesterday: someone paid up front the costs of the medical evacuation to Turkey! they still need to raise money to pay him back, but God is moving mountains for them and all they are looking for now is a doctor/hospital to receive baby Joshua. please continue to pray!

ok i've about had it with you, summer.

100 degree + temps and killing all the lovely things that spring brought about.

i'm so over you.
fall, please hurry up why don't cha?!
i'm ready for cardigans, boots and scarves!

Heard about Elevate Blog Conference?

The Elevate Blog Conference was designed to provide an opportunity for bloggers to meet together in an uplifting environment to get to know each other, build relationships and be inspired to take their blogs and businesses to the next level. The day will be spent hearing from speakers, attending workshops, networking, working on a service project, crafting and enjoying one another's company.

Lunch and dinner will be provided as well as all crafting supplies. We are blessed to be working with The Shine Project to assemble school supply kits for local elementary schools in Orange County as well as Arizona. We would appreciate any donations that you would like to bring and contribute, but it is not mandatory.
